Riftbinder Dev log #1

Riftbinder

Riftbinder is my personal project where Riftbound players can edit and share each others virtual binders and wishlists.

Main purpose of Riftbinder is to help players to easily access and see other peoples binders instead of consistently create various trade post on platforms like Discord. Based on their location, players can see other nearby local players' binders and wishlists, letting anyone to look for possible trade opportunities much easier.

Please note that main goal of this project is to assist local scale trades than making big sales for profit. Using cash and mail for trade is ultimately up to the users, but I strongly do not recommend this as neither Riftbinder nor I can support solving any disputes.

Main feature showcase

Signed in with Google account, users can set their location and contact info from settings (located on Google icon). Then, users can edit their binder and wish list.

From player search page, they may search any players nearby that either:

  1. has cards that they want (requestable)

  2. want cards that they have (offerable)

Users must specify their method of contacts (f.e. Discord with username) so that they may contact each other.

Known issues and future plans

Riftbinder project has minimal functionality as it is still under development and needs a lot more improvements. Please feel free to contact me for bug reports, suggestions, issues, etc.

Possible UI improvements

Known issues

  • Fix card filter ui
    • Color not matching to each domain filter
    • Multiple domain filter not possible (only supports individual domain filter, not "Or" selector)
      • This is not difficult to implement, but this filter works on server side to avoid loading all cards to the client. Most likely will be fixed within few days.
  • Top nav bar can scroll, which it should not
    • This was wrongly structured while trying to be mobile friendly. This issue can be fixed easily, but most likely be fixed with entire mobile responsive patch
  • Modal for detail view of each cards cuts card image, and do not show entire card image.

Possible major feature additions and improvements

  • Displaying current card value using TCGplayer api
    • To enable this, I must submit an application to be approved as a developer to access TCGplayer api. Definitely useful feature, but this will take some time.
  • Chat feature to directly contact other users
    • This could be a lot easier than letting users to rely on other methods like Discord, phone number, etc to talk to each other. This project is built upon my personal blog website with its supabase. Also, at the moment, I cannot manage or handle possible issues between users if I implement messenger in this application. Therefore, this is only planned at current stage.
  • Using camera or photos to auto upload to Riftbinder
    • This would be cool and convenient to a lot of people, but it would only work with great accuracy and speed. User friendliness is on top of my priority, but I need to test and tinker a lot to get there.
